2013 westward ho! 1/?
Hello world,
I am not sure where to start this post. I guess I will start at the beginning.
About a month and a half ago I set out on a 15 day journey that would take me 6,256 miles, through 11 states, past several windmills, 5 horses and a cowboy . With the hall pass from my wife and son I set out with no particular place to be. (Well, I did need to show up at WPPI in Las Vegas and do 3 seminars for Nikon. But besides that...free as a bird. ) A couple times a year I need to shake up the globe and see where the snow is fallin. See things unexpected. Meet people I would have never met. I have to go out and make images for my soul. I have to find my center again. The lecture I gave for nikon started out something like this...
"My name is Parker J Pfister. I am a photographer. I am not a wedding , portrait, commercial, fine art or landscape photographer. I am a photographer. I eat it, breathe it and sleep it. But most of all I dream it. I believe a photograph can still change the world. I believe photography is still an art form not a commodity. I believe that images are made in the mind long before we pick the camera up. And I believe a successful photograph begs more questions than answers. I believe that I will make a photograph that will mean something more to someone than I could ever imagine. And I believe I will make that image through having direction, faculty and curiosity. But I am sure that Curiosity drives this train."
I believe that curiosity is the best tool in a photographers bag. What does it look like from down there? What happens when I stack 21 stops of ND filters to the lens? How will the film/chip respond to 30 minutes of exposure time? What is over the next hill? Why is that cop following me? What state am I in? Am I going to jail? Shit, I pray its Colorado!
This will be a multi day post so stay tuned for tomorrows installment. Not a lot of letters but a lot of memories in image form.
These are in complete random order. I was going to categorizing them into different levels of volume from silent to screaming but who am I to tell you the volume of an image.
No real techie notes for these images either. It just doesn't matter. They where made with a big camera and a smaller camera.
