Asheville- A fashion show
hello world,
a couple nights back I was asked to photograph a few dresses from this years ACT (Asheville Community Theater) Costume Drama- a men fashion show. The categories this year were Paper, Light, Nature, and Upcycled/Recycled for Asheville’s most unique fashion show. The audience votes for Category Winners by raising money for Asheville Community Theatre ($1 = 1 vote). For the Best in Show, the audience votes by ballot. This incredible event was standing room only!
Before the event I had 3 of the designers/models stop by the studio for a quick "snap". (as Elliott Erwitt would say) I had no idea what these dresses looked like before they walked through the door but I knew I wanted to pull each of the personalities out of them by using different techniques for each one. This was great fun and a great challenge.
I am dumbfounded by the amazing talent in this town. These dresses are simply amazing as are their creators! The models aren't too shabby either! ha
We have our "light" dress first designed by Caitie Sellers and modeled by Amanda Swafford. LED lights were sewn into the dress to illuminate the fabrics. (BTW, this was the best of show! congrats!)
The next dress is our "nature" dress designed by Kristina Benshoff of Provocation and modeled by Jackie Franquez. Created entirely of basket weave. (this one gave me a headache just thinking about the time involved to create it. Well done!)
Our final dress is our "paper" dress created by Juniper Cooper and Joti Marra. Modeled by Kimberly Turley. Made entirely of hand cut paper. (This was the winner in the paper category and was well deserved!!)
